Professor from the Rural College of Ayotzinapa found dead a few miles away from the school (04/07/2016)

La Cartita --- Professor Gelacio Navarrete's body was discovered around midday yesterday on the 7th kilometer of the Chilpancingo-Tlapa road. The stretch of road is located between two points known as The Dump and Cerro de Machohua. Local authorities gave a press conference shortly after the official location of the body.

Tixtla, Guerrero.- Gelacio Navarrete, a well known professor at the Ayotzinapa Rural College, was found dead hours after having been kidnapped, in the vicinity of a makeshift landfill on the Chilpancingo-Tixtla road.

His body was wrapped inside a plastic black bag near a clandestine dump. Although the state of his body could not be reviewed, forensic experts from the Guerrero Attorney General's office informed his family that he was the teacher of the Normal "Raul Isidro Burgos".

The stretch of road is located between two points known as "The Dump" and "Cerro de Machohua". Local authorities gave a press conference shortly after the official location of the body. Police reports indicate that a telephone call to the emergency number, '066', reported the existence of ablack nylon bag containing his remains.

Elements of the Municipal Police of Chilpancingo and Tixtla conducted a search for the bag and managed to locate Navarrete's body on a slope above the canyon road.

The area was cordoned off by authorities, while experts from the Attorney General's Office(FGE) and the prosecutor took charge in performing their usual tasks. The professor's relatives flocked to the area to identify the body, and at the end of the proceedings were informed that it was indeed Gelacio Morales Navarrete, who had for more than eight years worked for the Ayotzinapa Rural College.

The professor had been attacked and killed by an armed group on Morelos Street in the center of Tixtla, a few meters from City Hall; the attackers took Gelacio towards an unknown direction in a van.

In the municipality of Tixtla, the Community Police of the Regional Coordinator of Community Authorities (CRAC) operate and they were recently attacked by gunmen linked to the criminal group "Los Ardillos". Four of their policemen were killed.

In addition to this violence, at least twice after the disappearance of the 43 students in the city of Iguala, Ayotzinapa students have been threatened by other members of organized crime.

The Attorney General said in press conference that the teacher was shot, kidnapped and delivered to members of an organized crime group, which was not identified. The AG also said that the family did not file a complaint with the agency, but that the office had opened an investigation to determine the whereabouts of the teacher and his captors.

At the time of this writing, the Ayotzinapa College has not issued a statement on the matter. The teacher was known for his staunch for the Ayotzinapa movement, since 2011, following the murder of two students during a protest in the Autopista del Sol, if the date has not been clarified. It had been part of the struggle Committee graduates of the Normal from 2012 to access teaching positions, including demonstrations in offices and avenues.

As part of a shooting and hunting club, "Vicente Guerrero", based in the city of Tixtla, Navarrete also conducted reforestation of trees and agaves in alongside students of this school. He participated to such an extent that he was considered one of the "uncles", a title assigned to people close to the institution, like the parents of the 43 disappeared students.
