La Cartita --- Later this week, 'Dope Fiend' is set to be released on multiple online platforms. Los Angeles rapper, Conejo, a.k.a "G-Rabs", is on another run in the rap world, but this time it ain't from the law. Conejo is generating momentum in a unique hip-hop scence with a string of new albums for an increasingly global community that bumps his brand of cerebral gangster music. Upon his release from LA County Jail, Conejo immediately gave hundreds of thousands of avid listeners a new batch of music. Among the releases is 'Favela 4', an album with references to Brazilian hood themes in both the lyrical content and the music itself. Topic: [[Conejo]]

P-90 Ruger Music Video - Single Off 'Favela 4' album available on Itunes.

Internationalist in nature, Conejo's song list in this album presented a panoramic view of Brazil, going further afield than expected visually too. P-90 Ruger, for instance, opens with a crazy synth loop 'freak out'-type oscillator sound to a stunning view of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Visually, the video's purple hues draped over a beautiful brunnette woman & views of a Favela were the perfect contrast to lyrics like:

'I am the rebirth of Gangster Rhymes/I climb to the top/And get whats mine' ....

And....

'You better know about me / Saying prayers in the Dungeon / While the sky gets cloudy'

That experience pretty much sums up the album's approach sonically, with another highlight in the album being the soulful 'Ill Wait', a loop that reminds this author of 'Milton Nascimiento'; I've yet to confirm the exact sample, but it'll haunt me for some time.

Who Is Conejo?

To the uninitiated, Conejo could be summed-up as 'one of the most underrated rappers' active in the hip-hop scene today. From a writing and song composition point of view, Conejo is on the same plane as other notable hip-hop acts. Like others working within a loose coalition of California gangster rappers, there is one thing that puts someone like Conejo above the rest in mainstream hip-hop: authenticity.

Without making any value judgments, Conejo is actually affiliated with a Sureño click, has spent time in prison, affirms his Mexican identity and is not easily pigeon-holed in themes and lyrical content, as this 'Favela 4' and the upcoming 'Dope Fiend' albums attest. In other words, he's experienced his music in a way that few rappers today can show. And, it's not 'played-out' or whatever connotation authentic may yield. Perhaps, then, this type of content is simply too real for a white dominated marketing machine that ascribes a strict, stereotypical black/white archetype to all contemporary hip-hop music.

Circumstantial Cases Dropped, But Conejo Still Had To Leave Los Angeles...

Ancient history now, but for nearly 14 years, Conejo was on the run from US federal agencies over a series of shootings loosely and circumstantially linked to him.

Even so, while wanted for questioning & imprisonment based on presumed guilt, the rapper managed to evade the authorities in Mexico... for 14 years. Prolific, Conejo still released a flurry of records while on the run, with each iteration sounding more sophisticated than the last.

Speculation, along with some statements from the artist himself, indicates that a close associate decided to provide information to state authorities in Baja California.

The tip led to an eventual US extradition, but ironically a just outcome: Conejo, after more than a year in detention, is eventually released in March of 2018, without charge from Los Angeles County Jail. In all likelihood probably due to flimsy evidence, but that is a story for Conejo himself to recall at a later date.

ETP, the corporation that owns Dakota Access Pipeline, has suffered a hack.

La Cartita --- Yesterday, a cyberattack, possibly linked to Russia or other state actors, was undertaken against Energy Transfer Partners, the owners of the Dakota Access Pipeline. So far, 4 gas pipelines have been shutdown as a result. Companies that suffer such attacks are vulnerable to their stock devaluing. Often on social media, news of these hacks are actively suppressed due to that information factoring into their valuation.

The computer network attack first appeared as a service outage at a document exchange. The exchange likely contained sensitive information relating to the customers' distribution of oil. After the attack was identified, the ETP system's operational capacity was restored only for the malicous code to jump into other networks.

While that attack was declared suppressed and repelled early Tuesday, a distinct attack appears to have shutdown Energy Transfer data warehouse and affected several other related companies in the oil pipeline industry. The attacks come after an AP report that notes White House intelligence analysts think Russia has infiltrated vast amounts of US energy infrastructure.
