A Boeing 787 aircraft operated by Air India en route to London crashed just minutes after takeoff from Ahmedabad, India. It had over 240 people on board! Witnesses reported an explosion in the air before the plane went down in a residential area. Various bits of footage, videos and pictures depict a crash in a crowded city center, including a hospital where students were dining.
This model, the 787 Dreamliner, had already sparked controversy due to technical failures — including engine loss mid-flight. The incident was recorded by a passenger in late April of this year. Parts of the outer components could be seen being stripped apart by the sheer movement of the craft with no obvious external factor besides shoddy build.
And the worst part… Boeing had already been under intense scrutiny after the fatal 737 MAX crashes, yet faced no criminal charges in the U.S. under the Trump administration. This suggests that the lack of enforcement at the criminal level to incentivize real change at the process engineering level for Boeing.
