Chicanos Ramp Up Defense of Elders During Brutality Incidents In Santa Ana California

According eyewitnesses who have been in contact with lacartita.com staff, the following incident took place in Santa Ana California, on June 29, 2025. Several hooded men who some presumed to be ICE agents, tackled an elderly man to the ground and imprisoned him within a civilian, unmarked car. Two Chicano individuals stood their ground and demanded to see a warrant. The rest of the community honked their cars in solidarity on the intersection of Main & Central, Santa Ana.

High Profile Abuses

Other high profile cases have a recurring theme that usually involves heads of family households, like Narciso Barranco, a 48-year-old gardener and father of three Marines, who was arrested while working as a landscaper at an IHOP restaurant in Santa Ana. The attempt to demoralize and deport is largely directed by Stephen Miller, an open racist who wishes to push back against the historical reality of both California and immigration.

Video footage showed seven masked federal agents pinning him to the ground and repeatedly punching him in the head before pushing him into an unmarked vehicle.

Santa Ana councilmember John Hernandez commented on this case, saying “We are seeing an extreme abuse of power on the screens of our phones” and described Barranco as a “hardworking Santa Ana resident of over three decades, who has raised three children who have all decided to sacrifice their freedom for this country

Speculation On Origins Of Some Contractors

Witnesses say that two young men came to the aide of an older gentleman who was being encircled by masked ICE/Oath Keeper men – the latter may be the source of enthused right-wingers helping trump up the ICE plan to deport hard working families. In fact, they may be actively trying to engage only civilians because of the negative economic impact this would have in the area. Plus, this also represent low risk since these are not violent members of the community.

The Oath Keepers, which counts as members Chad Bianco, Riverside County’s top Sheriff, is a far-right militia group that was significantly involved in the January 6, 2021 Capitol attack and sought to assassinate leaders who recognized Joe Biden’s electoral win in 2020. To many people’s surprise, the Los Angeles County contingent was among the largest members in the Capitol Hill riots of January 6, 2021.
