Medellín, Colombia- The lifeless body of Clifford Allan Wilke, 66 years old, was discovered in the room of the luxurious Dann Carlton hotel, located in the El Poblado neighborhood. The American tourist had arrived alone at the hotel on Thursday night, June 28th and had only one night reserved, his departure was on Friday 29th. However, when the hotel staff went to his room in the afternoon to ask him to check out, when there was no response from Wike, they decided to enter the room where they found him naked and lifeless in room 1706.
According to official reports, Wilke’s body showed no apparent signs of violence and no suspicious objects were found in the room that could shed some light on the facts. Wilke, 66, a resident of New York City, had been in Colombia since February 19, according to his passport stamp.
This incident adds to the growing concern for the safety of foreigners visiting Medellin, with two foreigners killed in the last week and a series of 31 tourist deaths in the city so far this year.
Given the alarming number of foreign deaths in Medellin, international organizations, including embassies and consulates, have issued warnings to their citizens about the dangers of traveling to the city. The cause of Wilke’s death has not yet been determined and investigations are still ongoing.
