Attorney Claims His Surrender Was Involuntary

According to the ‘Los Angeles Times’, through a lawyer declaring in court on behalf of Mayo Zambada, this key element of Mexican drug trafficking pleaded ‘not guilty’ in a federal court, which is common during these cases.

What was unexpected, or perhaps to safeguard information related to the same case, El Mayo Zambada claims that his surrender was not voluntary, possibly to allow U.S. intelligence agencies to maintain some of the credit for his ‘capture’.

The Mexican government also apparently learned about the alleged capture and operation through the press, just like everyone else. It’s unclear if there are lies through all official channels, but there is certainly a strong interest from Mayo himself to keep his intentions hidden for as long as possible and thus keep his goal within reach.
