Mexico City – Sunday night was anything but quiet for Mexico City when a 20-year-old man lost his life on a ride-hailing trip via the DiDi app. The victim, identified as Alexandro, was gunned down by two men on a motorcycle, sending shockwaves through the city and reigniting concerns about the ongoing violence plaguing the capital.
According to the driver of the vehicle, the assailants approached the cab and, without explanation, began shooting at Alexandro, who was shot at least 10 times and died at the scene. The authorities have launched an investigation into the incident, calling it a direct attack. However, no suspects have been arrested so far. The only evidence available are images captured by nearby security cameras, which show the assailants fleeing on a motorcycle.
This tragic event has once again put the spotlight on the problem of violence in Mexico City, a situation that has become increasingly alarming. Citizens are demanding more effective measures from the authorities to combat crime and ensure the safety of citizens. In addition, a debate has been generated about the responsibility of transportation companies such as DiDi in the safety of their passengers, as this is not the first incident of violence recorded on a trip on this app.
On July 7, Paola Andre Bañuelos, a 23-year-old psychology student, was the victim of femicide at the hands of a DiDi driver. The assailant, identified as Sergio Daniel Gutiérrez, raped her, strangled her and later abandoned her body in the Islas Agrarias neighborhood.
