Israeli intelligence successfully infiltrated Hezbollah communication devices, triggering a chain reaction of explosions of radios, walkie talkies and pagers. The timing of the attack, which coincided with the funerals of the victims of the earlier attack, has heightened tensions in the region and caused unrest among civilians.

Israel’s recent operation, which involved hiding explosive material inside a shipment of Taiwanese-made pagers destined for Hezbollah, has raised questions about the logic of this tactic. With at least nine casualties and more than 300 wounded in this second attack, Lebanon’s civilian population has fallen into a state of panic and alarm.

Israel had reportedly tampered with the pagers before they arrived in Lebanon, placing explosive material along with the battery of each device. This resulted in devastating explosions that have killed more than 20 people, injured thousands and led to the temporary suspension of flights to and from the country. This new form of attack has also raised concerns about the use of civilians as collateral damage in the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hezbollah.

The uncertainty surrounding the next move by either side only adds to the fear and anxiety felt by the people of Lebanon. While the conflict between Israel and Hezbollah shows no signs of slowing down, innocent civilians continue to suffer the consequences.
