Los Tigres del Norte With New Song ‘Aquí Mando Yo’ – Rumor Is That They May Play Show For Migrants In Mexico

Recently, the Mexican music legends Los Tigres del Norte have recently dominated X comments, where users circulated some interesting range of opinions and rumors, most of which were unsubstantiated, but merit some comment.

Los Tigres del Norte: Legacy

Their music is recalled as a point of reference for Mexico’s storytelling tradition, providing social commentary on a plethora of issues. Much like a news reel or newspaper, the band has been able to connect and comment against racism and imperialism within the US-Mexico border context. Nonetheless, they still have an edgy bandit slant to them that has not faded with age. Like most Mexicans, Los Tigres del Norte continue to exploit their longevity and grit on the music scene.

The band’s latest song, “Aquí mando yo,” a song whose intended recipients have sparked an online debate about whether it targets other music groups. The song had the classic rhythm, but the lyrics pointed and declared that the group’s trajectory has preceded and surpassed generations. Also, the group has claimed that too many groups are relating false stories around drug trafficking (possibly) and fables around conflicts. Check out the lyrics below:

Aquí mando yo
Y este colmillo no lo tuve que comprar
Ya son años de trayectoria, ya probamos de la gloria
Ya veníamos de la tienda cuando tú ibas por el pan
Hay que aceptar la verdad

The song was released in early May and has simultaneously gained a boost with Los Tigres Del Norte summer tour that has spanned Mexico and the US.

Rumors regarding Los Tigres del Norte’s potential appearance at an upcoming migrant party being organized by Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador have also swirled among Twitter users. However, no official confirmation has been announced.

Despite over 4 decades of a profound musical career, Los Tigres del Norte continue to be at the forefront even amongst Mexican youth. In fact, a not too distant family member who is a member of the Gen Z crowd went to the groups summer shows in Los Angeles, California. You can imagine my glee at traditions of corridos, singing about a precarious relationship with the law and hard work being communicated still amongst my younger family and friends.

In the end, within the US, Mexicans have to deal with a bad hand dealt from betrayal in the 1800’s and treachery afterward. Los Tigres del Norte reminds us of the many victories that can still be had if one maintains their resolve.
