The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department reported to the FBI that it experienced a “network” disruption to its electronic Systems last week. The incident was also reported to the Department of Homeland Security which signals worry from the usually cavalier county of San Bernardino authorities.

SBSD spokesperson Mara Rodriguez told the SB Sun yesterday that no county officials or operations were disrupted. The issue was identified last Friday April 7, 2023 and it is alleged that the incident was contained and managed with a 3rd party provider(s).

A distinct county spokesperson said the county’s networks were fine. However, SB County Administers two networks one for their security services and another for their administrative operations. Its entirely possible that the same intrusion or disruption is present in the administrative networks, but has been left undetected.

While Federal Authorities are usually called when such incidents take place, most county and municipal level authorities are quick to minimize the threat. In this case, San Bernardino County Sheriff’s office is being cagey with the public, but quite open with the federal government likely an effort to minimize culpability for lack of openness should a major incident be identified.
