A violent attack shook the early hours of Monday at the “Bling Bling” bar in Cuautitlán Izcalli, State of Mexico, when armed men stormed the establishment and fired directly at patrons, resulting in the death of six people and leaving five others injured.
According to the State of Mexico’s Attorney General’s Office (FGJEM), the gunshot wounds were inflicted at close range, leading to five fatalities on-site, including a minor. Another individual was transported urgently to a hospital but passed away while receiving medical care.
“The attack was targeted, leaving a tragic toll of six deceased and five injured,” reported a source from the FGJEM, referring to initial findings from the investigation.
The National Guard, along with State and Municipal Police officers, swiftly arrived at the scene, located on José María Morelos y Pavón Avenue in San Francisco Tepojaco. The area was cordoned off to allow authorities to conduct their investigations. Medical services were also deployed, treating the injured on-site before transferring them to various hospitals.
Preliminary reports indicated that two individuals, known as “Kevin” and “Richi,” were in the bar and may have been the attackers’ intended targets. However, it remains unknown whether these individuals are among the deceased or injured, and authorities have yet to release an official statement on this matter.
Witnesses stated that following the shooting, the assailants calmly exited the bar and got into two waiting vehicles. They reported that there was no opportunity for those present to react due to the swiftness of the attack, which caused panic among customers and staff.
“It was a swift and brutal attack. The assailants fired, left, and escaped in a matter of seconds,” recounted a witness who was nearby.
Meanwhile, the FGJEM continues its investigation to determine the motive behind the attack and to identify those responsible. In the coming hours, the Forensic Medical Service (Semefo) is expected to complete the removal of the bodies, and authorities are anticipated to provide further details on the investigation’s progress.
