OCEANGATE

The OceanGate expedition to the mythical Titanic ended in tragedy, since the submersible that the company had been using, also known as Titan, was located on the oceanic brelief after losing contact one hour and 45 minutes after initially submerging last Sunday. The voyage, which was expected to explore the wreckage of the Titanic, was expected to provide incredible new insights into one of history’s most legendary maritime disasters.

The remains of the Titan were discovered by a robotic vehicle from the Canadian ship Horizon Arctic as part of an international rescue mission. The frame and back cover were among the identifiable pieces found. The United States Coast Guard then confirmed that the pieces belonged to Titan as they began an investigation of the incident.

Meanwhile, OceanGate released a statement in which they expressed their condolences and confirmed that their CEO, Stockton Rush, his son, Suleman Dawood, also aboard the mission were British adventurer and businessman Hamish Harding, French diver Paul-Henri Nargeolet, and a Pakistani father and son. The sub lost contact an hour and 45 minutes after its dive on Sunday and is reportedly equipped with between 70 and 96 hours of life support, according to the US Coast Guard.

This incident has shed light on not only the rich history of the Titanic but also the incredible risks people take to gain knowledge and insight. We can only extend our condolences to the families of those who have lost their lives in the pursuit of this great endeavor.
