A tragic accident at the Gran Estación shopping center in Bogotá has left the local community in shock and mourning after a 5-year-old girl from Ecuador died when a glass panel fell from the second floor of a store and struck her. The incident occurred on Wednesday morning while the child was visiting the popular mall with her parents.
The girl, whose identity has not yet been disclosed, was reportedly walking near the store when the glass panel unexpectedly detached from its fixture and plunged to the ground. Emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene, but despite efforts to save her, the child was pronounced dead shortly after the incident.
Gran Estación, one of the most well-known shopping destinations in Bogotá, issued a statement expressing condolences to the family and pledging full cooperation with the ongoing investigation into the cause of the accident.
“We want to express our deepest condolences for this tragic event,” the statement read. “We are committed to offering the family all the support they need during this difficult time and will continue to do everything possible to assist them.”
In the aftermath of the incident, the shopping center management announced that a comprehensive review of the circumstances surrounding the accident is underway. The mall emphasized its commitment to the safety of its visitors and stated that security protocols would be strictly enforced as part of the investigation.
