In a surprising move, Matt Gaetz unceremoniously withdrew from both the Attorney General role promised to him from Trump and also announced he wouldn’t run for congressional reelection. Stunning, absolutely stunning, if you want this writer to be honest and direct.
Many speculate that there is little to nothing attributable to Democratic noise (who in these past elections proved themselves irrelevant) and more to do with the standard FBI screening that all major political appointees are subject to prior to ascending to a government post of that nature.
Venmo To Young Girls, Campaign Fees Via Stripe
According to Bloomberg, the root of the issue is the movement of money via Stripe and that this was not accounted for at the more minute level in which specific individuals are identified. In fact, Stripe, like Venmo, is just a payment system, but more than 2.5 million dollars were funneled via the platform from Gaetz donation funds. This smells and looks like campaign finance issues which are a serious and grave offense both at the federal and state level.
“The official said that the campaign’s FEC reports don’t disclose where the money ultimately was sent because the software the campaign uses to manage its funds doesn’t break out what was paid to Stripe and what was sent to others. The campaign doesn’t have a detailed accounting of how the money was disbursed, the official said.” — Bloomberg News
Additionally, Gaetz has been dogged by a Florida sex scandal alleging that the congressman was flying young girls out to visit him. The payments were logged via Venmo and involved teenagers aged 17. The issue centers on a federal inquiry that traced the money sent via Venmo back to escorts who were possibly trafficked. Specifically, one adult 19 year old woman testified to a federal ethics committee via an attorney that not only did she have relations with Gaetz, but that she also witnessed him have similar illegal relations with a 17 year old minor.
