John Poulos, the main suspect of the murder of Valentina Trespalacios a 23 year old DJ in Bogota, is under arrest after attempting to flee Colombia. Poulos was arrested in Panama. He was attempting to reach Turkey in order to avoid any legal consequence for Trespalacios’ murder. Allegedly, the plan was to reach a country with no extradition treaty.
The case of John Poulos is not the first time a US citizen has been accused of committing a crime in Colombia. In recent years, there have been several cases of US citizens traveling to Colombia and committing crimes.
In 2018, two US citizens were arrested in Colombia for their involvement in a drug trafficking ring. The two men were accused of smuggling cocaine from Colombia to the United States. They were sentenced to 10 years in prison for their crimes.
In 2017, another US citizen was arrested in Colombia for his involvement in an illegal gambling ring. The man was accused of running an online gambling website that allowed people to bet on sports games and other events without proper authorization from the Colombian government. He was sentenced to five years in prison for his crimes.
The case of John Poulos is yet another example of US citizens traveling to Colombia and committing crimes. It is important to note that while the majority of US citizens who travel to Colombia are law-abiding individuals, there are some who take advantage of the country’s lax laws and commit serious crimes. It is important that these individuals are brought to justice so that they can be held accountable for their actions.
