The Government of President Gustavo Petro has been caught up in various controversies since the beginning of his term, and the media have been closely following his process, but with the feeling that freedom of expression has been questioned.
There has been some discussion regarding the safety of Vicky Dávila, director of the magazine Semana, who has been involved in most of the controversies and questions directed at Petro.
Below are the journalist’s revelations that have most annoyed the president.
Was Vicky Dávila dismissed from Semana due to controversy?
Gabriel Gilinski responds to doubts: “The money was from Petro, there were five suitcases and 3,000 million pesos”, they cited in one of the recent magazine articles, news that did not seem to please the president at all, since according to him “anonymous testimonies do not provide evidence”. “It must be the competent authorities, and not anonymous people whose interests are unknown, who provide clarity on the investigation processes that are being carried out,” wrote the president in a statement.
And according to Semana, a “protected witness” revealed important accusations related to irregularities during Petro’s campaign. Illegal interceptions The controversy between Armando Benedetti, Laura Sarabia and her former nanny Marelbys Meza, gave a lot to talk about, it was even pointed out to the Head of State to “tap” phones in his government. “They remind Petro that his intelligence director was from the M-19,” the magazine cited, while Petro said that a philosopher was not to intercept phones.
Ironically, days before the President accused Semana of ordering the CTI to make these procedures. For this reasosn, Vicky Dávila sought support from her readers on social networks.
Petro stated in a public broadcast: “Colonel Carlos Feria will appear before the Attorney General in the case of Laura Sarabia Former heads of state call for the stigmatization of the press in Colombia I just ask you to give us more and more support every day, read us more, don’t leave us alone. Here we are to inform you with the truth and only for you. [..]
For democracy, for the country, for freedom. “They have accused us. They have almost said, without ethics, that we listened in on phones. They just raided other offices of the presidency. Semana orders and the CTI obeys. We open the doors. We have nothing to hide,” the President said in one of his speeches.
Suicide Colonel Oscar Dávila – “explosive testimony”
According to Semana, a source close to the colonel could have revealed that the colonel did not commit suicide, but felt strong pressure after participating in the polygraph of Marelbys Meza. In addition, the supposed designation of lawyer Miguel Angel del Río in his case links back to the government.
Faced with this fact, Petro spoke out and said: “Some sectors of the press have insinuated that Colonel Dávila did not commit suicide; if they approach to find out the causes of his suicide, and it will already be the task of justice, they would find a mirror and the reflected image would make them scream in terror “.
Famous people concerned about the country? In her interviews, Vicky Dávila has taken the opportunity to ask different celebrities about their stance towards the Petro government, however, some people say they have little knowledge about the topic and only hope that the Head of State is doing the best for the country.
