For more than two decades, the annual Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show was an eagerly anticipated event, drawing millions of viewers who tuned in every year to see the parade of lingerie-clad supermodels known affectionately as the “angels.” After four years of absence, the ‘World Tour 2023’ promises to be much more empowering and inclusive than the iconic Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show of years past.
Now, the iconic lingerie brand is planning a comeback but with a totally different look. Dubbed Victoria’s Secret The Tour ‘23, the fashion extravaganza won’t be a typical parade of models sashaying down a runway in high heels. Instead, the show promises to celebrate global women and creatives with a series of fashion collections featuring both established stars like Gisele Bündchen and Naomi Campbell, and twentysomethings like Gigi Hadid, Hailey Bieber and Adut Akech which will be created by designers from four cities: Bogota, Lagos, London and Tokyo.
The show will also feature guest artists such as Doja Cat and Sabrina Carpenter, who will provide musical accompaniment, as well as unexpected glimpses into what happens backstage via an accompanying documentary, to be released on Prime Video on Sept. 26th.
Victoria’s Secret’s dramatic pivot is a step in the right direction, towards an era of more inclusive and empowered fashion. The brand’s decision to move away from its often criticized idealized standard of beauty is not only a welcome break from the past, but also sets a model that could be imitated by other fashion houses.
This tour could mark the start of a new chapter for Victoria’s Secret and the fashion world at large. Let’s hope it will bring about a much-needed shift in the industry toward greater inclusivity, diversity and representation of all kinds of body shapes and sizes.
