Brownside was an influential rap group from Los Angeles that made a major impact on the hip-hop and rap communities. The group was comprised of Wicked, Toker and the late Danger, who was killed in a shooting in 1993. Eventually, another member of the Eastside 13 gang was integrated into the group’s musical recordings in the late 90’s.
Bronwnside was a project developed by Eazy-E and Toker as both intersected with the same lawyer. After Eazy-E’s cheeky comments about Mexicans in ‘dope man’ some individuals in the Mexican community of Los Angeles wanted some retribution. In a way, Eazy-E redeemed himself for the light-hearted comments and pushed forward with a vision relating to a gangster rap group comprised of LA based Chicanos.
The group’s lyrics often lyrics often spoke to the struggles of the inner-city communities of Los Angeles. Brownside’s music was heavily influenced by the likes of N.W.A., Eazy-E, Cypress Hill, and other West Coast hip-hop acts. They released their debut album, “Eastside Drama,” in 1995 and it was met with critical acclaim. The album featured production from some of the biggest names in the industry, including Eazy-E.
