Miguel Angel Garcia-Hernandez, a 31-year-old Mexican national, died on Sept. 29 at 11:48 p.m. Central Standard Time from injuries sustained when a sniper opened fire on ICE’s Dallas facility on Sept. 24. He left behind a long-time partner and 5 young children.
García-Hernández’s family, represented by the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC), expressed profound grief over his death. His wife, Stephany Gauffeny, described her late husband as a loving father and primary provider for their family. The couple, expecting a fifth child, recently celebrated purchasing their first home together.

In the early morning of Sept. 24, ICE took Mr. Garcia into custody. At approximately 6:24 a.m., an active shooter incident occurred at the ICE Dallas Field Office. Mr. Garcia sustained critical injuries from being directly targeted and was transported to a nearby hospital, where he passed away five days later.
Following protocol, ICE then notified the appropriate oversight bodies, including the U.S. Department of Homeland Security Office of Inspector General, and has informed the Consulate of Mexico of Mr. Garcia’s death.
Demographics and Background of White Male Shooter
The sniper who targeted the facility was a white male, and U.S. citizen. The incident highlights the growing concern that sniper shootings radicalize a subsegment of the U.S white male population, as they are frequently engaged in lone-wolf shootings.
Joshua Jahn was a 29-year-old U.S. citizen from Fairview, Texas, a suburb about 30 miles north of Dallas. He grew up in Allen, Texas, with two siblings—a brother and a sister—and his parents still lived in the Fairview area per Newsweek.
Education and Employment
Jahn attended the University of Texas at Dallas briefly starting in 2015 and also attended Collin College at various times between 2013 and 2018. He studied mechanical engineering at UT Dallas from 2014 to 2016 but failed most of his classes. An unremarkable male, he had no children previously worked in coding but was recently unemployed and had planned to move to his parents’ property in Oklahoma.
While ICE and the Trump administration have sought to paint their Gestapo agents as victims, the true and only victims of the incidents were the hard working immigrants slain. Nothing would consequently justify draconian measures, like deploying the National Guard.
