Colombian authorities have intensified their crackdown on organized crime, announcing the capture of a key figure in one of the nation’s most notorious drug trafficking gangs and a significant cocaine seizure at the country’s main airport.
Alias “Boica,” the second-in-command of the Clan del Golfo, was apprehended in the town of Apartadó. He is reported to have spent over a decade orchestrating various criminal activities, including narcotrafficking, extortion, and a series of targeted killings of social leaders, according to a post by crime intelligence sources.
The arrest underscores Colombian efforts to diminish the influence of organized crime groups amid rising violence linked to drug-related activities. Clan del Golfo remains one of the most powerful drug trafficking organizations in the country.
In a separate operation, authorities intercepted a massive 282 kilograms of cocaine at El Dorado International Airport in Bogotá. The seizure occurred after a police dog detected the narcotics hidden within 76 plastic containers disguised as waterproofing product jars. This incident reflects ongoing challenges faced by law enforcement in combating drug smuggling in the region.
These developments come as Colombia seeks to enhance its security strategy and diminish the power of drug cartels that have historically plagued the nation.
