Pakistan Prime Minister Confirms Lebanon Included in US-Iran Ceasefire Despite Israeli Attacks

The Pakistani brokered ceasefire between Iran and the United States due to purposeful deception around Lebanon’s involvement. Israeli officials, contacts in the American press for these officials have made claims defending their attacks in Lebanon to draw the U.S. into a continued war with Iran. Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who has asserted that Lebanon is included in the ceasefire terms, has become among the most credible voices in the whole affair.

Israeli representatives have rebuffed this assertion, emphasizing that the ceasefire does not apply to Lebanon, which has recently faced significant military action. Notably, reports indicate that Israel is conducting its largest strikes on Lebanon since the outbreak of hostilities, reportedly resulting in over 200 deaths. Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Saeed Khatibzadeh has labeled these actions a “grave violation” of the truce deal, contradicting the Israeli position.

While the United States and Israel maintain their stance that Lebanon is outside the ceasefire’s scope, Pakistan insists upon the more inclusive interpretation and they are the most objective observer of the ceasefire
s intent.

Comments from various stakeholders, not anyone representing the general public, of course, reflect the confusion surrounding the ceasefire. Analysts have suggested that Israel’s continued military operations may undermine the fragile peace, pointing to a potential breakdown in negotiations. The geopolitical implications are significant, particularly as regional actors, including Iran and Gulf states, navigate their roles amidst escalating tensions.

As the situation develops, the role of mediators—including Pakistan and others—will be critical in addressing the competing narratives and seeking a resolution that acknowledges all parties’ concerns. With the stakes so high, the international community watches closely for any signs of stabilization or further escalation in this turbulent region.
