OpenAI CEO Sam Altman’s San Francisco home was hit by a second attack early Sunday, just two days after a separate Molotov cocktail incident at the same property. In the latest episode, police said gunfire was directed at the residence from a passing vehicle, escalating concerns about the safety of one of the technology industry’s most visible leaders.

The earlier attack happened before dawn on Friday, when authorities say a 20-year-old suspect threw a Molotov cocktail at Altman’s Russian Hill home, igniting part of an exterior gate. Prosecutors later identified the suspect as Daniel Moreno-Gama, who was subsequently charged in connection with the attack and with threats allegedly made soon afterward against OpenAI’s headquarters in San Francisco. No injuries were reported.

According to reports on the second incident, officers responded at about 2:56 a.m. on Sunday after a possible shooting near the home. Investigators said surveillance footage appeared to show a passenger firing from a vehicle as it passed the property. Two suspects, identified in multiple reports as 25-year-old Amanda Tom and 23-year-old Muhamad Tarik Hussein, were arrested on suspicion of negligent discharge of a firearm. Authorities also reported recovering three firearms during the investigation.

OpenAI has confirmed both incidents and said it is cooperating with law enforcement. The back-to-back attacks have intensified scrutiny around security threats facing prominent AI executives, especially as debates over artificial intelligence grow more heated. In a public response after the first attack, Altman called for a de-escalation in rhetoric surrounding AI, while officials continue to investigate whether the attacks were ideologically motivated.
