During the oral trial against him, John Poulos, the murderer of DJ Valentina Trespalacios, broke his silence and confessed his guilt for the crime. In the middle of the hearing, from the La Picota prison where he is being held, Poulos gave a detailed account of how the events occurred the night he took the life of the 23-year-old.
Poulos, a 30-year-old American, and Trespalacios had been in a relationship for some time. According to his version, while they were having sex, he strangled Valentina with an object around her neck. However, when he realized that he had killed her, he tried to revive her but it was too late. In the midst of anguish and regret, he confessed that he was “destroyed” for having killed someone he loved.
Poulos also admitted that they had both consumed tusi before the incident. Despite Poulos’ confession, his attempted escape after the murder raises questions about his true intentions. He claimed to be afraid of facing an unfair trial in Colombia due to his perceived corruption.
As the trial for the murder of Valentina Trespalacios continues, it is hoped that the truth behind her death will bring closure to her loved ones, that justice will be served and that Poulos will be convicted for his heinous act.
This serves as a warning to all women who begin relationships with people from abroad, either through dating apps or on trips abroad. Be alert to the dangers that can arise in these situations.
It is also common for women who enter into relationships with foreigners to suffer from gender-based violence. Because they are interacting with a different culture, they may be victims of controlling and manipulative relationships that lead to physical, emotional and sexual violence.
