Bobby Pulido, famed Chicano singer, running for Congress in Texas.
Bobby Pulido, the beloved singer who first came to national attention with ‘Desvelado’ where he can be singing and cruising around in a cool Ford Mustang in the 1990’s, is now running for U.S. Congress.
Just last year, in November 2024 (coincidence with the ascent of you know who?), Pulido announced his retirement from live music after 30 years. Nonetheless, you can still catch Bobby Pulido this year (2025) touring Texas!
The announcement certainly hinted at his sense of morality: “In 2026, I’ll be running for public office in the attempt to fulfill my lifelong dream to serve my people. At this time, I cannot mention what I’ll be running for or any details. People are exhausted from a grueling political season. In due time, everyone will know what I stand for and what capacity I’d like to serve.”
Pulido will run as a Democrat against what he calls injustices perpetuated by Republicans in Texas and nationally. Specifically, Bobby Pulido will run for the Texas’ 15th Congressional District, aiming to challenge Rep. Monica De La Cruz, the first Republican and first Latina elected to represent this district in the House of Representatives.
This may just be the candidate to combat the reactionary Latinos deployed on behalf of the Republicans. It is often the case that Latinos gain leverage in right wing circles when they portray themselves as even tougher against their people than white actors. The eagerness to please has devastating effects on entire communities.
Bobby Pulido may just be the antidote to this sickness, but there is something to be said that he’s a relative novice and not known for speaking engagements. Nonetheless, he will be unlikely to have stage fright.
