The boxing world was left in shock when it was announced that Mexican superstar Saul “Canelo” Alvarez would no longer be working with Premier Boxing Champions (PBC). The news came after negotiations failed over his next opponent for the May 4 fight in Las Vegas.
After initially choosing to face Jermall Charlo as his next opponent, Canelo and his team were met with rejection from PBC when it came to negotiating the financial terms of the fight. The organization cited the lower sales of the previous Canelo vs. Jermall Charlo fight as the reason for their reluctance to offer a $35 million fee. In addition, they had plans to change the opponent to David Benavidez. This proposal did not sit well with Canelo and his team, which led to increased tensions and ultimately caused the deal to break down.
Because of this, there are rumors that Canelo will most likely return with Matchroom Boxing’s Eddie Hearn for a possible fight against Jaime Munguia or Edgar Berlanga. This remains to be seen because for now Canelo is not willing to change his decisions.
Although his relationship with PBC has come to an end, it is expected that Canelo will continue his successful boxing career and continue to look for bigger and bigger challenges in the future.
