Near the Mexico Guatemala border, a new conflict between the civilian population and the Cartel de Jalisco Nueva Generacion cartel is brewing, and local Mexican army troops are heavily favoring the CJNG while also abetting the movement of drugs and migrants from south. Additionally, in a twisted irony, only the Cartel de Sinaloa appears to have done anything worthwhile for those people, as this video shows.

Morena activist and Chicomuselo, Chiapas teacher, José Artemio López Aguilar, was murdered by a criminal cell linked to the Jalisco New Generation Cartel. In the early morning, three men entered his home to carry out the homicide. The group dared to beat Lopez Aguilar in front of his 18-year-old daughter and wife. Finally, they executed him with a shot to the head. Community members were quick to note that the local Mexican army battalion appears to be in favor of the atrocities perpetuated by the CJNG since they were near the perimeter of the community’s boundaries.
His colleagues and the community note that he led a march demanding that criminal cells stop harassing the population of the Sierra de Chiapas. The area is defenseless against the constant violence by cells of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel and cells of the Sinaloa Cartel, whose presence, according to locals, is typically seen as merely focused on drug trafficking.
In his last weeks, the teacher had been active as an activist demanding that authorities fulfill their duty of ensuring security and social peace. In a rally, Lopez was one of the main speakers addressing issues that many would not dare to speak about in a dangerous context.
According to the Blog del Narco, Lopez Aguilar was a social actor and described as follows:
“López Aguilar was a teacher at Telesecundaria Delegación D-LL, a member of the democratic bloc of Section 40 of the National Union of Education Workers (SNTE), and just this past October 12, he led the march demanding Governor Rutilio Escandon and federal authorities to not turn a blind eye and confront the violence that is happening on the Chiapas-Guatemala border.” – Blog del Narco
The National Union of Education Workers (SNTE) issued a statement addressed to the governor of Chiapas, Rutilio Escandon, demanding that the basic security functions of the state government of Chiapas be fulfilled.
