Las Vegas, Nevada – On January 3, a District Court in Clark County was the scene of a violent and surprising attack against a judge during a parole hearing. The violent event was recorded on video and has generated outrage and concern about security in the courtrooms.
During the hearing, District Judge Mary Kay Holthus presided over the case of defendant Deobra Delone Reden, 30, who faced attempted assault charges. Reden had applied for parole, but she was furious to hear that her request had been denied. Without thinking twice, she jumped onto the stand and lunged at the judge, violently knocking her to the ground.
The images of the attack are shocking and show the excessive force with which Reden attacks the judge, who tries to defend herself against her and ask for help while she is repeatedly hit. The hearing descended into total chaos, with lawyers and security officers trying to control the attacker and protect the judge.
This incident has raised concerns about security in the courts, as they are supposed to be safe and controlled places. Fortunately, Judge Holthus was not seriously injured and it is expected that legal action will be taken against the attacker for her unacceptable behavior in court.
