In an unexpected media interview, David Benavidez joined David Feitelson, a long-time detractor for Canelo, to discuss his future plans and different opinions. Curiously, Feitelson has begun promoting Benavidez fights via Televisa (a rival to Canelo’s usual outlet: TV Azteca).

Now, David Benavidez’s pending match against Oleksandr Gvozdyk has been a topic of major interest among boxing enthusiasts. Gvozdyk has only lost to Artur Beterbiev, the most explosive and powerful light heavyweight, in a late round stoppage.

And so, while many are predicting an outright win for Benavidez based on his speed, but we are a bit on the fence as Benavidez size will be less relevant at 175 lbs. Gvozdyk looks to be in shape for their bout, but, perhaps, his inactivity will leave something to be desired and he has not been high in contention for much time since he lost his WBA title.

In his last bout against Demetrius Andrade, size and strength allowed Benavidez to nullify all issues Andrade could raise in their bout.

Nevertheless, Benavidez is certainly a special talent who Gvozdyk will have to pace himself against.

Chicano boxer, David Benavidez, an undefeated former champion in the Super Middleweight division and now contender in the light heavyweight division, has been brewing up something of a media storm lately. Benavidez has gone on several podcasts to let the world know what he thinks about his compatriot. David has contested that Canelo Alvarez, a fellow Mexican boxer, is not as exceptional as the world thinks.

Fans are eagerly awaiting a potential match between the two, which some are calling the most anticipated fight in the history of Mexican boxing. While many detractors are toying with Canelo, stating that the famed Mexican boxer is ‘scared’ of Benavidez, others are more forgiving of the alleged hold-up for the fight. Most reduce it to a simple issue: money.

A Punch of Controversy

In his public comments, Benavidez stirs up an old controversy, claiming that the best version of Canelo Alvarez was seen when he used Clenbuterol, a performance-enhancing substance that is banned in sports. As most boxing fans acknowledge, however, Canelo was cleared of wrongdoing when it was found that a vast amount of beef in Mexico is contaminated with the growth hormone. The potential fight has become a hot topic on social media platforms with many expressing their anticipation while others critique the contenders.

An Uncertain Future Benavidez argues that Canelo has never attempted to organize a fight between them. This statement has only increased the tension between the potential opponents and has left fans wondering if the highly anticipated showdown will ever occur.
