French Cybercrime Unit Raids xAI/Twitter Paris Officers Over Child Porn Generator

French prosecutors in Paris have launched a judicial investigation into xAI’s Grok, an artificial intelligence tool responsible for generating and disseminating sexualized deepfake images involving women and minors on social media platform ‘X’, formerly known as Twitter. This investigation coincides with reports that SpaceX, Musk’s aerospace company, has acquired xAI, raising concerns about the implications for both entities.

The Paris judicial inquiry follows public outrage and a growing scrutiny over deepfake technology’s misuse at a large scale. Millions of people witnessed X users undress women and girls without their consent via artificially generated photographs.

A mere 24 hours after the merger of xAI and Space X, Paris based cyber units led to the raids.

Authorities searched the headquarters of X, demanding Musk’s presence in France for questioning related to the scandal, further complicating the landscape surrounding Musk’s ventures. One commentator noted the potential backlash from SpaceX investors, stating, “SpaceX investors are going to be livid when the investigations eventually involve SpaceX.”

As the investigation unfolds, the implications for Musk’s businesses and ongoing legal battles surrounding AI and digital content are evident. Social media companies are increasingly NOT looked upon as neutral actors or intermediaries with the content. Their ownership over the algorithm that promotes and foments certain content has increasingly been a point of argument for prosecutors successfully arguing responsibility.

It seems, then, that the Parisian raid on xAi’s kiddie porn generating technology is just the beginning for the embattled tech nerd, Musk, who has recently been seen getting invites, attending and getting uninvited from Epstein’s notorious kiddie island.
