In a joint and coordinated operation, the Colombian Navy and the US air platform seized a significant amount of drugs in the Atlantic, marking another major victory in the fight against drug trafficking.
The operation, which involved naval intelligence and collaboration between the Colombian Air Force and a US air platform (naval carrier), took place 66 nautical miles from Santa Veronica, in the Atlantic. A total of 24.83 kilograms of cocaine hydrochloride and a whopping 1,288 kilograms of marijuana were recovered.
A “Go Fast” type vessel was used to transport the alkaloids, which would have an estimated value of more than nine million dollars in the international illegal market. The four individuals on board, three of Costa Rican nationality and one Nicaraguan, attempted to flee upon realizing the presence of authorities. However, the efforts of the Colombian Navy and US forces were able to apprehend both the vessel and its crew.
The seizure of these substances not only represents an economic blow for the gangs dedicated to drug trafficking, but also prevents 276 thousand doses from reaching the streets. Meanwhile, the vessel and its crew were placed at the disposal of the competent authorities to continue the investigation and punish those responsible.
