On the night of Wednesday, April 23, María del Carmen Morales, a member of the collective Guerreros Buscadores de Jalisco, and her 26-year-old son, Jaime Daniel Ramírez Morales, were murdered in the municipality of Tlajomulco de Zúñiga, in the metropolitan area of Guadalajara, Jalisco.
The attack occurred around 11:30 PM in the green areas of Fraccionamiento Las Villas, specifically at the intersection of Villa Sur 32 and Villa Sur streets. According to police sources, the attackers were two men dressed in black clothing who arrived on motorcycles, shot directly at Jaime Daniel and his mother, María del Carmen, and then fled the scene.
According to confirmation from the Guerreros Buscadores de Jalisco collective, both victims were involved in efforts to locate Ernesto Julián Ramírez Morales, their son and brother, who had been missing since February 27, 2024, in the same area.
In a statement shared on social media, the collective expressed sorrow over the incident and demanded that authorities clarify the facts as soon as possible.
“Today, unfortunately, our collective has suffered a devastating blow. We demand an immediate and thorough investigation to determine those responsible for this double homicide. Justice for María del Carmen and her son Jaime Daniel, as well as for Ernesto Julián, whose case remains unresolved,” said the organization.

The collective also directly requested President Claudia Sheinbaum’s intervention to ensure state authorities take additional measures in response to the violence.
“We ask the President to exert pressure on the state of Jalisco to take concrete measures to prevent violence and ensure justice for the victims and their families,” the statement reads.
For its part, the Jalisco State Prosecutor’s Office announced it had already begun investigations to identify the attackers. Preliminary information from the official investigation reveals that the attackers arrived on a motorcycle and shot the young man; María del Carmen was fatally injured while attempting to defend her son.
“According to the investigation, the attack occurred when two men arrived on a motorcycle and directly attacked the 26-year-old victim. In trying to defend him, his 43-year-old mother was also injured. Both lost their lives,” the Prosecutor’s Office stated in an official report.
Finally, the agency added that, as of now, it has no evidence directly linking the murders to María del Carmen Morales’ activities as a member of a missing persons search collective, although they continue gathering testimonies and evidence to determine the exact motive of the crime.
“At this time, there is no evidence to suggest a connection between the murders and her mother’s involvement in a collective searching for missing persons,” the state Prosecutor’s Office concluded.
