On Twitter, a confirmed video showing Quintana Roo based state prosecutor and police officers receiving a 800k bribe is making the rounds. The video was published on the twitter handle of ‘Blog del Narco’. There are 3 individuals who represent the state and local government who are accused of accepting the bribe, but only 2 have been apprehended. The one who has escaped is believed to still have some of the funds.
Earlier this week, El “Pelo Chino” was detained by municipal and state level authorities. However, as the main leader of the Caborca Cartel, he was able to bribe their way out of an imminent arrest.
The story takes place In Quintana Roo where José Gil Caro Quintero, known as “El Pelo Chino,” leader of the Caborca Cartel and nephew of Rafael Caro Quintero, was detained and then released. It is worth noting that during his arrest, substantial evidence emerged suggesting that he had provided a bribe of 15 million pesos to both the police and the prosecutor’s office. Remarkably, a portion of the negotiation between Caro Quintero and the agents was recorded.
This incident highlights the intricate connections between drug cartels and corrupt law enforcement agencies in Mexico. It is an alarming example of the deep-rooted corruption that has seeped into the fabric of Mexican society, perpetuating the rampant violence and expanding criminal networks.
Moreover, one cannot disregard the implications of Caro Quintero’s familial ties to Rafael Caro Quintero, a notorious drug lord with a long history of involvement in the illicit drug trade. This connection reinforces the notion that drug trafficking operates as a highly organized and interconnected system, where familial relations and criminal enterprises intersect.
