The Polish beverage company Dictador made headlines this month when they announced the appointment of a CEO to their board who is not human, but a humanoid robot powered by Artificial Intelligence (AI). The unveiling of Mika, a female version of Hanson Robot’s Sophia AI, indicates potential for AI-powered robots to take a prominent role in corporate leadership, raising questions about the impact of robots in the workplace. While Dictator pointed out that Mika is not authorized to make important decisions, such as dismissing or hiring human employees.
Mika is capable of working around the clock, 24 hours a day, without the need for rest or holidays, and is expected to detect potential new clients for the company and also to choose artists for the packaging of the products it offers. In addition, Mika is leading Dictator Europe’s Decentralized Autonomous Organization (DAO) project, Arthouse Spirits, communicating with the DAO community.
Marek Szoldrowski, President of Dictator Europe, believes installing a robot CEO is a proactive move in dealing with the dynamic, ever-changing nature of business. He commented, “It’s a question mark for us what the future will look like for companies like ours, but I just think it’s worth incorporating AI.”
The installation of Mika signals a shift in the corporate landscape and prompts questions about the future role of robots in the corporate world. With the consequences of such a move yet to be seen, some are concerned that robots can be overly efficient, unfairly replacing jobs, or impart poor decision-making that cost the company money and resources.
It remains to be seen how other companies will react to the presence of Mika and how her decisions will shape the future of corporate leadership. Ultimately, the answers will only be revealed as she and other AI-integrated robots continue to enter the workforce and join the boards of other companies.
