There’s a tangible buzz around the Chicano music group, Chicano Mosh, and it’s a privilege to write about them just as they appear to be heading into that momentum that will get them headlining more and more. In fact, today marks their first headline event ever at The Smell in Los Angeles; if they continue to strum through, then surely not the last.
They self describe as “just some homies from the IE”, but the Chicano “four-piece surf punk band from Corona, CA, carrying the sound of surf with their heavy bass lines blasting drums, and infectious guitar rhythms and leads” is far from just that. My suspicion is that the membership shows they can be so much more. The appreciable raw talent is there.
True to themselves, however, they have a wit that translates well across their socials and music alike. As they sound today, Chicano Mosh is a formidable act already. However, with the youth element, I can’t help to wonder what an extra instrument and double harmonies would do for them. In their vocalist, , they have someone who’s already willing to leverage multiple cultures. This will only get better.
Still, the lovable sticatto and Telecaster sound, and mostly English singing is amazing already. And, worth noting that they will play at the Voodoo Room on June 13.
Trayectory
Last month, the group made quite the impression on more than a few media outlets at classic Inland Empire spot, the Glass House, in Corona, California.
In all honesty, the band might not realize how talented they are just yet. In English, they are fantastic. However, as a native Spanish speaker, I can tell you these guys sound better and most original in Spanish. To do them justice, I share with you the future of Southern California rock music in the form of my favorite song so far.
The old school and new school mix of contemporary guitar lines with some 50’s twangy reverb slushed guitar as great, and the use of chorus guitar is on point. I can’t tell what their ceiling could be, but maybe that’s just up to them to explore what music and audience they want to rock out with and who will ride with them. It be nice for the inland empire to have another Spotify trending artist in a different genre, like Fuerza Regida of rock. Fingers crossed.
