MONTREAL – The tragic disappearance and subsequent discovery of the body of William Santander de la Hoz, a 33-year-old Colombian tourist, has shocked the community and left his loved ones searching for answers. The incident occurred on July 6, when Santander fell from a yacht into the St. Lawrence River near Montreal, Canada.

Santander arrived in Montreal on June 27 and through his social networks he shared photos of all his plans in the city. However, his trip took a devastating turn when he disappeared from the third floor of a yacht during a ride on the St. Lawrence River.

What is known

According to witnesses, Santander was last seen heading to the bathroom on the third floor of the boat. Moments later, one of his friends lost sight of him and it is believed that he accidentally fell into the river. The captain of the yacht immediately alerted the authorities, initiating a search and rescue operation.

After four days of intense searching, on July 10, a body was found in the river with physical characteristics matching those of Santander. The Montreal police notified the family, and his mother, Martha, participated in a video call for identification.

In a statement, the family thanked the support received during the search and asked for prayers for their loved one. They are now seeking a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash, in hopes of gaining clarity on the events that occurred on the yacht.
