Tragedy struck on the I-84 interstate in Orange County on Thursday afternoon, leaving one dead and 46 injured, five of them critically. The accident reportedly occurred just after 1:20 p.m. and resulted in the road being closed to westbound traffic from Exit 15, according to a statement from the New York State Police.

Members of Farmingdale High School were aboard the bus, although the exact number of students remains unclear. Emergency responders, including the Port Jervis Fire Department, the Greenville Fire Department and the N.Y. State Police, rushed to the scene to treat and triage victims. Additional resources were dispatched to the site from nearby areas.

The cause of the accident is an ongoing investigation. The bus was reportedly headed from Long Island to Pennsylvania at the time of the crash. Our thoughts and prayers are with all those involved.
