After Decision Win Against Angelino Cordova, Dont Sleep On Julio Cesar Martinez

In a complicated fight, Julio Cesar Martinez was able to win on points against a very physically robust Angelino Cordova. On March 30, 2024, Julio Cesar Martinez won a majority decision win against Venezuelan Angelino Cordova. Cordova was unknown, but in my estimation, a quite game opponent for Martinez, with only one decision loss and an ability to box from the outside.

If you look at the BoxRec: Julio Cesar Martinez for Martinez, you’ll find that he’s been defending the WBC flyweight title since 2020. In his most recent bout for the undercard of Tim Tsuyu and Sebastian Fundora, Martinez was able to look impressive but maintained the attitude and no holds barred offense that fans love of him.

Eddy Reynoso at times seemed to do the prudent thing, and caution Martinez to block more, to maintain a high guard since Cordova was able to connect directly with right hands. Eventually, Martinez was able to wobble Cordova through great timing and dropped him once with a jab and again with a power shot in the 3rd round.

Cuts

The cuts near Martinez’ eye caused him to get suspended until May of this year, but the boxer should be back in the ring. Some social media reports indicated that both Cordova and Martinez were taken to the hospital after all those heavy blows they sustained from one another.

Future Looks Bright

If you ask me who JC Martinez should face, perhaps, the winner of Bam Rodriguez and El Gallo Estrada is the right fight.

I do not know whether this last fight counted as preparation for a more slick boxer style, but Cordova was certainly useful in pointing out flaws in Martinez’ defense while providing adequate resistance and some power. In the first two rounds of the fight, Eddy Reynoso admonished Martinez for not maintaining a high guard, but Martinez was able to correct that and close the distance, with the power differential being very obvious in erasing any gains made by Cordova.
