The entire (or most) of the Fuerza Regida group was arrested on Saturday after they crossed into Mexicali, Baja California.

Apparently, Jesus Ortiz Paz, the alleged issue is the fact that Ortiz Paz may have been attempting to enter Mexico with small quantities of Marijuana for personal use that were purchased in California.

Fuerza Regida detained at the Calexico-Mexicali border over small quantities of Marijuana

Apparently, 10 rolled marijuana pre-roll cigarettes, a canister of marijuana and other paraphernalia that are technically not illegal in certain parts of Mexico, but the fact of the matter is that Ortiz Paz came in from Calexico, California towards Mexicali, BC and was stopped by the Mexican National Guard.

Why is the law so harsh in Mexico?

A lot of this is lack of context for anyone who crosses into Mexico without the usual corrupt connections or lax controls. It’s very well possible that in any other occasion Ortiz Paz could have just slid on by to his next location, but, perhaps, his luck has run out.

According to El Universal, during this routine check, Ortiz Paz and his two colleagues were detained by the National Guard since the law in Mexico defines the introduction of drugs across the border as very illegal. The law is really designed for people who import loads from South America or Asia or are bringing in precursors into the country. The fact that Ortiz Paz is Chicano will definitely help impose a fine and brush aside the legal issues, but in the meantime, the law is likely defined in such a way as to not allow for any discretion at the point of detention.
