Google has just taken a big step into the foldable phone market with the official unveiling of their new Pixel Fold. The tech giant has been teasing their foldable phone for months now, and the release of the video showing off the device has tech fans buzzing.

The Pixel Fold is a 7.6-inch folding phone with an external 5.8-inch display. It is powered by Google’s Tensor G2 processor, which is also found in the latest generation of Pixel phones. As with most folding phones, the Pixel Fold is expected to have a hefty price tag, with rumors putting it at around $1,700.

Foldable phones have been gaining in popularity among celebrities and influencers, but the market for foldable phones is still relatively small. Samsung dominates the category, followed by other brands like Motorola/Lenovo, Oppo and Huawei. According to ABI Research, foldable and flexible displays made up about 0.7% of the smartphone market in 2021, and in 2022 it is expected to fall just below 2%.

Google has been a leader in the tech industry for years and the Pixel Fold will surely increase their presence in the foldable phone market. With the release of the Pixel Fold, Google is betting that foldable phones will become more popular and that their device will be the one to lead the way. Only time will tell if they are right.
