An ordinary neighborhood in Bogotá was shaken by a gruesome crime in which a father ended the lives of his own children. The heinous act, committed by Darwin Felipe Beltrán, 31, has left the community in shock and mourning.
On the evening of October 28, Beltrán, who had a criminal record, got into a heated argument with his ex-partner, the mother of his two children, ages 4 and 7. High on drugs, Beltrán became enraged by jealousy and began to physically and emotionally assault the woman. In a desperate attempt to escape, the mother fled the house and called neighbors for help.
Tragically, her plea for help was not enough to save her innocent children, who were left alone with their father. Beltrán, filled with rage, used a knife to end the lives of his own children. The children’s screams could be heard from outside, prompting concerned neighbors to call the authorities.
Beltran is under arrest and in the custody of authorities and could face up to 60 years in prison for the murder of his two sons.
The brutal crime has left the neighborhood in grief and disbelief. The community is struggling to make sense of such a senseless act. Those who knew Beltrán are shocked and saddened, unable to comprehend what may have triggered such violence.
