On Sunday, a shooting shook members of Lakewood Church in Houston, Texas, when a gunman opened fire inside the church, wounding several people. The incident occurred just before the Spanish religious service began, causing panic and confusion in the community. The rapid response of the authorities was essential to contain the situation.
According to reports, the woman, who appeared to be between 30 and 35 years old, entered the church accompanied by a child. As she made her way through the building, she began shouting that she was carrying a bomb, while carrying a shotgun. Immediately the police officers present in the church took action by opening fire on the woman.
Unfortunately, the boy who accompanied her, only 5 years old, was seriously injured and is in critical condition in a children’s hospital. The motives for the assault are still unknown and the identity of the assailant remains undisclosed.
As the investigation continues, authorities are urging the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity.
This senseless act of violence has once again brought the issue of gun violence in the United States back to the table. The fact that it occurred in a sacred place such as a church further shocks the community.
