Evgeny Chebotarev, a Russian “influencer” nearly lost his life in a daring stunt gone wrong. In an effort to demonstrate his skill and share it on social media, Chebotarev was attempting to jump from one abandoned construction site to another in his white-colored lada niva, but instead fell from a height of 15 meters and crashed into the side of a building.
The moment was captured on video and posted to Chebotarev’s Instagram profile. In the recording, he can be seen taking a running start in order to cross the gap between the two buildings, but the impulse fails to give him enough momentum to reach the structure on the other side. As a result, the car Chebotarev was using to execute the stunt plummets 15 meters (50 feet) down.
The wreckage of the car remained at the base of the building, but the passenger, fortunately, made it out alive. The resulting posts on Instagram quickly went viral, racking up tens of thousands of views. Some, however, were quick to point out the potential danger, reminding Chebotarev of the risks associated with his stunt.
In his post, he indicated that he was attempting the challenging stunt in order to honor the memory of Sergei Bodrov, a Russian actor who died in 2002 while filming a movie in the Karmadon Mountains in Ossetia. In the past, he has skated over cars and bicycled over three cars, and for this attempt, he had been using a makeshift ramp made out of wood and a rope to help him cover the gap between the buildings.
Chebotarev’s social media accounts are now full of comments from concerned viewers who had not wanted to contemplate the potential consequences of his stunt. But for the lucky “influencer”, this near-fatal event will continue to serve as a reminder of the importance of doing stunts safely.
