Netflix and Sofia Vergara are facing a lawsuit from Michael Corleone Blanco, son of famous Colombian drug trafficker Griselda Blanco, over their upcoming biographical series “Griselda.”
Blanco, who is seeking $50,000 in damages, alleges that the series is based on interviews he and his brothers conducted with two journalists between 2009 and 2012. He claims that two members of the production team were engaged to work with him on a Hollywood production. but when Netflix showed interest, they were excluded and not compensated.
This has raised concerns about the show’s release, which was scheduled for Jan. 25. However, the streaming giant has yet to comment on the lawsuit.
Who was Griselda Blanco
Griselda Blanco, also known as the “godmother of cocaine,” was a feared and notorious figure in the world of drug trafficking. Her violent reign in the 1970s and 2000s made her a household name, but her life was filled with turmoil and tragedy. From an early age, Blanco was exposed to violence and crime, which led her to begin her own criminal career as a pickpocket at the age of 11.
Her role in establishing cocaine trafficking routes between Colombia and the United States and her close ties to drug trafficker Pablo Escobar only increased her notoriety. However, Blanco’s luck ran out when she was arrested in the United States and then murdered in Medellin in 2012.
With the growing popularity of true crime dramas, “Griselda” was expected to be a hit for Netflix. Not only does the show feature the powerful story of a major drug trafficker, but it also stars Sofia Vergara, who has gained international fame for her role on the hit show “Modern Family.”
But now that this lawsuit is looming over the production, it remains to be seen how the launch and reception of “Griselda” will be affected. Will the show continue to air as planned or will it face delays and revisions? Only time will tell.
