History was made in Las Vegas on Saturday night as Terence Crawford (39-0, 30 KOs) captured the undisputed world welterweight championship, becoming only the second fighter (male or female) to win the undisputed championship in two different weight classes during the “Four-Belt” era of boxing.

In a one-sided affair, Crawford showed the boxing world why he is considered to be one of the top pound-for-pound fighters in the world, dominating Errol Spence Jr. in a thrilling match that would ultimately go to the referee’s decision as the fight was stopped in the ninth round.

Throughout the fight, Crawford displayed unparalleled technical proficiency, showcasing his trademark combination of speed, power, and agility as he landed punch after punch and forced Spence Jr. onto the defensive. He knocked down the former champion three times and continued to mount a determined offensive until the referee finally stopped the fight, prompting roars and an eruption of emotion from the T-Mobile Arena crowd that had filled the arena in droves.

“I only dreamed of being world champion,” Crawford said after the fight, reflecting on his journey to this point. “Nobody believed in me when I was starting out, but I made everybody believe. And I want to thank Spence and his team, as I told him, because without him none of this would be possible for me.”

Crawford’s impressive victory joined Canelo Alvarez and Devin Haney as the third undisputed men’s boxing title fight of the year, as well as the sixth undisputed women’s boxing title fight this year.

With 67 fights between the two champions coming in to the fight, Crawford vs. Spence Jr. tied the record for the highest combined number of wins (67-0 with 52 KO’s) for a welterweight unification bout since Oscar de la Hoya and Felix Trinidad in 1999.

Terence Crawford’s symbolic victory is a reminder of the talent and tenacity one must possess to become an undisputed champion. Crawford’s example is sure to inspire many in the decades to come.
