Colombian immigrant Evelyn Dayana Hernandez, 22, had only one dream: to tirelessly pursue the “American dream”. Two years ago, along with her husband and young son, she migrated to the United States in search of a better future. Unfortunately, her dream was abruptly snatched away on July 11 when she collided with a Florida police vehicle. This tragic incident has shocked her family, who still reside in Colombia and are desperately seeking answers and justice.
Florida police officer involved in fatal crash
There are few details about what happened that day, but official reports confirm that an officer was responding to a call for service when he struck Evelyn as she was riding her bicycle home through the intersection of South Tamiamiami and Bay Street. They also revealed that Evelyn ran a red light just as the officer crossed through the intersection. However, the police department has not yet shared a full explanation of the events that led to this fatal accident.
In Columbia, Evelyn’s family is in grief, trying to come to terms with their tragic loss. Her mother and sister are appealing to the national authorities to grant them humanitarian visas so that they can travel to the United States to say their final goodbyes to Evelyn. They are also asking the authorities for more information and clarification about what happened that fateful night.
