French online influencer and Instagramer Remi Lucidi is dead at the age of 30 after he fell from a height of 200 meters while taking aerial photographs from the Tregunter Towers skyscraper in Hong Kong, China. Lucidi was known for taking extreme and risky photographs from tall buildings and structures, with no protective equipment nor safety measures.
Lucidi gained access to the Tregunter Tower by telling a security guard that he was visiting a friend on the 40th floor. However, he quickly made his way to the top floor, where he became trapped outside the building.
The South China Morning Post newspaper reported that police found Lucidi’s camera at the site and inspected its contents hours after his death. It showed Lucidi had been engaging in the dangerous activity for some time.
The extreme sports enthusiast had traveled the world to share his extreme pursuits. From towers near Chernobyl, Bulgaria and Bangkok, to rooftops in Dubai and Portugal, Lucidi’s Instagram was full of breathtaking shots of his adventures. His last post showed him scaling a tower in Bulgaria, with the caption “Life is too short to chase unicorns.”
Hong Kong police have announced that they will be taking more measures and stricter approaches to avoid similar incidents from happening in the future, vowing to secure and protect the city’s massive high-rise building structures from unauthorized entrees.
Lucidi’s story is just one of another cautionary tale of a man unable to resist the allure of danger, yet ill-prepared for the consequences that lay in wait. Lucidi’s family and friends are now left to grieve, and his social media followers can only express shock and sorrow over his untimely demise.
