Medellin authorities reported on Tuesday, July 16, two more cases of foreigners who died in the city. Although the events occurred separately, both have something in common: bodies found lifeless in their hotel rooms.

The first case occurred in El Poblado, an area known for being one of the most exclusive in the city. Bhupendra Kumar Chhaganlal a 66-year-old man from Ireland was found lifeless in his bed by the cleaning staff. No evident signs of violence were found. His stay in the country had begun in February of this year.

The second case took place in the Laureles neighborhood, where the lifeless body of Mattew Miller, a 42-year-old U.S. citizen, was found in his hotel room. A veterinary drug was found on the bedside table in his room. According to the authorities, this man had arrived in the country in May.

These events are alarming and add to the list of 37 foreigners who have lost their lives in Medellín so far this year. Seventeen of them were American citizens. Although the causes of these deaths are diverse and in some cases are still being investigated by Medicina Legal, the truth is that only two have been classified as homicides. However, it is worrying to see the number of foreigners who are dying in this city, often related to drug use, parties and fights.
