The city of Bogota, Colombia has been plagued by a wave of violent crime that has left its citizens living in fear. Cases of assaults, robberies and even murders have been reported, leaving the community wondering what measures the government is taking to address this alarming situation.
Young man is assaulted and thrown off a bridge
One of the most shocking cases that has generated outrage among citizens is the assault and throwing of 26-year-old athlete Felipe Robles off a bridge. Roble was riding his electric skateboard when he was attacked by two delinquents who not only stole all his belongings but also threw him off a bridge. Roble was in a coma for more than a week and is still in intensive care.
Merchant is murdered inside his business
Another disturbing case is that of a shopkeeper and his girlfriend who were violently attacked by a thief inside their business. In videos posted on social networks, the thief can be seen entering the bar, stabbing the man and then his girlfriend before fleeing with the stolen money. Unfortunately the man did not survive and the woman remains in intensive care.

Stabbing assaults plague the city

These cases have provoked a cry for help from the citizens of Bogotá. Not only are they afraid to leave their homes and may be victims of robbery, but they also fear for their lives. The question that remains is where are the authorities in all this? It is the government’s responsibility to ensure the safety and well-being of its citizens; however, the increase in violent crime has left many feeling abandoned and vulnerable.
