The White House was thrown into chaos Sunday, July 2, when an unidentified white powder was discovered in the West Wing, prompting the Secret Service to evacuate the area and call in a Hazmat team to investigate the source of the substance. As it would soon be revealed, the powder turned out to be cocaine.

The discovery of the illegal substance raises serious questions for the Biden administration regarding security in the White House, as hundreds of people navigate the West Wing on a daily basis in order to get to the president’s office. While it remains unknown who might have entered the room where the cocaine was eventually discovered, President Joe Biden Jr. and his family were reportedly not present at the time.

Speculation is rampant on social media as well, with users linking the incident to Hunter Biden, the president’s son. Previous incidents of drug use have been linked to him, including a leaked video of him smoking crack while driving at an excessive speed, as well as photographs of various drugs on the table in his house that were revealed in 2019. Hunter is also currently going through a legal process for his alleged involvement in federal crimes including weapons possession and two tax frauds.

The White House is still investigating the incident, with no suspects named and no new leads. President Biden has yet to address the public on the matter, and the White House has not released an official statement. With tensions running high due to the risks to security posed by the incident, the Biden administration must move quickly to ensure the safety of its staff and the people who visit the White House every day.
