Reggaeton artist Dr. Velásquez was found dead in his residence in Envigado, Antioquia, early Saturday, June 8, from a gunshot wound to his head. Medellin is the state capital of Antioaquia for reader context. Authorities also discovered a woman dead in one of the rooms, wrapped in sheets, who was presumed to be the artist’s wife.
The crime scene investigation determined that both individuals had died from multiple gunshot wounds, but initially it was unknown whether it was a murder-suicide or if the man killed the woman and then took his own life. At the time of writing, the suicide has been discarded as a possibility.
Nonetheless, social media users were quick to speculate as to whether there was foul play based on record industry tensions:

The woman who was found dead next to Dr. Velásquez is Astrid Sofía Riascos Valdés, the singer’s girlfriend, who also died violently. Her family recently provided a funeral service for people to pay their respects. She was 23 years old and was in a relationship with the reggaeton producer. According to the official police report, minutes before their deaths, the couple was drinking with a close relative of the reggaeton artist.
The relative, interviewed by the authorities, mentioned that the three were socializing but he had stepped out to buy more liquor. Upon his return, he discovered the crime scene and the firearm, which he handed over to the authorities. Several music industry figures who had collaborated with the reggaeton artist, such as J Balvin and Blessd, expressed their grief over the incident on social media.
A suspect has already been identified by local police.

In social media, Astrid Sofia, showed off trips to Curacao and Africa, while also commenting on the virtues of personal development. Little mention was made to her relationship, but news outlets called her the ‘wife of the producer’ slain. The lack of references could also potentially be a situation in which the relationship was newly formed.
